Capacity and throughput are not interchangeable
Storage, Cards, Backup, Culling, and Delivery
Capacity and throughput are not interchangeable. A card can have enough space but not sustain the required write rate. A finished export can exist without a verified delivery or independent backup. Plan each step from declared file sizes, modes, copies, review time, and recipient requirements, then test the actual equipment and workflow.
The most valuable workflow proof is a small real one: capture the intended mode, copy it to independent locations, restore a file, make an export, and verify it in the delivery context. Arithmetic exposes assumptions; the proof exposes the actual path.
A 3-2-1 style backup plan is a mnemonic for a structure, not a certification: three copies, across two distinct media or location types, with at least one offsite. Counting copies is arithmetic; knowing whether those copies are actually independent, whether the offsite copy is truly separate, and whether the backup software or service itself is trustworthy are separate questions the count alone cannot answer. A plan can satisfy the count and still fail if all three copies share an untested restore process or a single point of failure upstream of the count, such as one shared account or one shared physical location.
Culling and export time both scale with decisions made earlier in the workflow. A rating or flagging pass takes time proportional to frame count and review thoroughness, not just frame count alone, and an export's file size and time depend on format, compression, and resolution choices made at that stage. Treating culling and export as a fixed post-production tax rather than a variable one, sized by the actual shoot and delivery requirements, is a common source of underestimated turnaround time.
Use the Storage and Backup Planner and Memory Card Throughput Planner for capacity and write-rate arithmetic, the Backup Risk and 3-2-1 Planner for the copy/location/restore checklist, the Culling and Delivery-Time Planner and Editing Workflow and Export Planner for the post-capture time and export-stage questions, the File-Naming and Metadata Planner for the naming and identification side of the same workflow, and the Client Delivery Timeline Planner to combine these into a full shoot-to-delivery schedule.
FAQ
No. It is a planning pattern. A verified restore remains essential.
