Samples, not proven detail
Scan PPI determines a pixel grid and an uncompressed data estimate. It does not prove that the film or scanner contains new detail at every sample. Film grain, lens focus, scanner optics, film flatness, dust removal, and processing all affect the usable result. Use the math to plan storage and output margin, then inspect a representative scan.
A 36×24mm frame at 4000PPI becomes roughly 5669×3780 pixels. In 16-bit RGB, the uncompressed pixel data is about 122.6MiB before file format and metadata overhead. That can support a large output arithmetic-wise, but the true detail may be limited by the negative or scanner. Scan one representative dense/detail-rich frame before standardising a workflow.
This result models the values you entered. It cannot see the scene, verify focus or movement, predict camera-specific processing, or guarantee the final photograph. Use it as a stated starting point, then check the important subject area in a test frame or proof.
