A review tool, not a selection engine
A contact sheet is a review tool. Its job is to make a set visible enough for people to compare frames, annotate choices, and discuss delivery. Grid arithmetic can show how many images fit and how many pages are required. It cannot decide the best image or guarantee that a specific printer's margins and labels will behave as expected.
A four-by-three grid holds 12 images per page. Sixty images therefore need five pages before you account for a real printer's margin and label behaviour. Increasing to five-by-four reduces page count but can make thumbnails too small for the review job. Export one proof, check the actual labels and margins, then use it for human selection.
This is a planning calculation, not a certification. Confirm the relevant camera, lens, card, printer, contract, location, or workflow constraint in the real setup before relying on the result.
Compare the chosen crop and output at the intended physical size and viewing distance. A proof is more informative than a generic PPI or quality label because it includes the actual subject, processing, paper, and display context.
